Selma Erat is full professor and has permanent position at Mersin University. She has been the Director of Advanced Technology Education, Research and Application Center and the Head of Medical Services and Techniques Department at Vocational School of Technical Sciences since 2018. She has been teaching and supervising MSc. and PhD students at the Department of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials. 2012-2018, she worked at Toros University at Engineering Faculty/Electrical-Electronics Department and served as Vice Dean and Head of the department and University Coordinator of ERASMUS for some time. 2007-2010, she studied at ETH-Zurich at Engineering Faculty/Department of Materials Science and also at EMPA, Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology/Laboratory for High Performance Ceramics in Switzerland. She has an experience on synchrotron spectroscopy as a user at different international centers; Advanced Light Source (ALS), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, California/USA, Swiss Light Source (SLS), Paul Scherrer Institute, Villigen/Switzerland, BESSY, Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) for Materials and Energy, Berlin/Germany, ELETTRA, Trieste Synchrotron Light Laboratory, Trieste/Italy, The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), Grenoble/France, Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), Grenoble/France.

Professor Erat’s research fields: semiconductors, Solar Cells, Fuel Cells, Energy materials, Materials characterizations, Nanomaterials, Thin Films, Electronic structure, Synchrotron spectroscopy methods (NEXAFS, XAS, PES), Atomic multiplet calculations, energy policy (recently).

As a PhD student, she received travelling support from the European NMI3 Integrated Infrastructure Initiative for Neutron Scattering and Muon Spectroscopy, for MRS Meeting in San Francisco in 2010 and she served as a speaker and also as a symposium assistant. Professor Erat has served as Guest Editor for MRS Energy & Sustainability since 2020.
