Applying to permanent academic positions is a notoriously arduous process and effective application packages are required to “get your foot in the door”. Providing reliable and independent resources for early career materials scientists is one of the goals of the MRS Early Career Professionals Subcommittee. Over the last two years, our Subcommittee hosted webinars examining the application process from the perspective of search committees as well as the perspective of recently appointed early career faculty members. While these previous webinars provide an overview of the entire process from various perspectives, the goal of this webinar is to provide insights towards crafting effective application packages for North American faculty position.

In this webinar, we will specifically focus on the application package by highlighting our subcommittee’s recent data-driven analysis regarding critical parameters in the faculty application process. We will then talk to our panel about their experiences in reviewing the application package and aspects that are important for getting “short listed” and invited for an interview. After our initial discussion, the floor will open for audience Q&A.
