The field of biomaterials is an exciting one that has been growing substantially, especially in the last few years. Biomaterials are used in various applications, including for medical devices, implants, and biosensors which deliver therapeutic intervention and medicines, and monitor essential health systems in and on the body. Made from different types of materials including living cells and tissue, biomaterials, together with other soft materials, presents a universe of thrilling possibilities for scientists and engineers to tackle some of the most significant grand challenges in society today. As such, there are many opportunities to contribute to this field across sectors, including industry, academia, and government. In this session, we will discuss the different aspects of this discipline, how it is moving forward, and where the opportunities lie for talented and enthusiastic materials scientists and engineers who wish to engage this frontier field.
