Quantum computing technology has seen rapid advancements in demonstrations of both individual qubit device performance as well as small-scale system demonstrations. Recent advances and opportunities in materials science for quantum computing include issues in synthesis and fabrication, materials characterization, and simulation. The July, 2021 issue of MRS Bulletin will highlight these opportunities, which can aid in the future of this burgeoning industrial sector as well as a productive research outlook with respect to investments and collaborations.

This webinar will expand on the MRS Bulletin issue with talks from leading experts in the field. Each talk will be followed by a Q&A session with the speaker.

Talk Presentations:

  • Atomic-precision advanced manufacturing for Si quantum computing
    Ezra Bussmann, Sandia National Lab
(Q&A with Shashank Misra, Sandia National Lab)
  • Novel Characterization of the Quantum States of Single-Spin Qubits
Benoit Voisin, University of New South Wales - Sydney
  • Characterization and Control of Diamond Surfaces for Qubits and Novel Materials Probes
Shimon Kolkowitz, University of Wisconsin - Madison
(Dr. Kolkowitz will be joined for Q&A  by Lila Rodgers, Princeton University and Nathalie de Leon, Princeton University)
