Mechanical forces exist in many cellular processes, including deformation, division and differentiation. In Addition, the transformation of normal cells to cancer cells also involves biomechanical processes. It is consequently important to investigate the mechanical properties of cells including determination of traction forces, in order to understand the physical mechanisms of cancer cell formation and develop novel strategies for cancer diagnostics and treatment.
