Jinghua Guo

Jinghua Guo received B.Sc. degrees in optical engineering from Zhejiang University in 1985, M.Sc. degree from Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Science in 1988, and Ph.D. degree in physics from Uppsala University in 1995. He continued as a postdoc in Uppsala University, and then a junior faculty in the physics department in 1997 and developed liquid cell for in-situ soft x-ray spectroscopy study. He moved to the Advanced Light Source, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in 2001 and is currently a Senior Scientist and Photon Science Operation RIXS Program Lead. His research focuses on soft x-ray spectroscopy (XAS, XES, and RIXS) of materials science and study of energy conversion, energy storage and catalytic processes. Jinghua has built in-situ/operando cells for soft x-ray spectroscopy study of the catalytic and electrochemical solid/gas and solid/liquid interfaces in realistic reaction conditions. He is an adjunct professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of California at Santa Cruz, and a Fellow of American Physical Society.

2020 MRS Innovation in Materials Characterization Award citation:
"For pioneering in-situ/operando soft X-ray spectroscopy characterization of interfacial phenomena in energy, catalysis, and chemical materials science"
