Erica Lilleodden

Helmholtz Centrum Geesthacht

Erica Lilleodden heads the Department for Experimental Mechanics in the Institute for Materials Research, Materials Mechanics Division, at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG), Germany. She is also professor for experimental micromechanics in the Institute for Advanced Ceramics at the Hamburg University of Technology, Germany. She received her PhD degree in materials science and engineering from Stanford University, USA, in 2002. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, USA, and a Humboldt Fellow at Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (now Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Germany, before joining HZG in 2006. Her research efforts are focused on the mechanisms of deformation and failure in structural materials, with particular interest in the effects of microstructural and geometric length-scales.
