He received his BS and MS degrees from National Taiwan University, and his PhD degree from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 2009. He designed and built the first scanning ultrafast electron microscope at Caltech.  His research focuses on interfacial energy and charge-transfer dynamics in heterogeneous solid‒molecule systems and ultrafast dynamics and transformation pathways of energy-related materials.
