Mathieu Bauchy

Mathieu Bauchy is an Associate Professor in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he runs the Physics of AmoRphous and Inorganic Solids Laboratory (PARISlab). He received his undergraduate education in physics at Ecole Normale Supérieure (France) before pursuing a Ph.D. in condensed matter at Université Pierre et Marie Curie (France). He then joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a postdoctoral associate.

Mathieu Bauchy is a computational materials scientist who is using simulations and machine learning to decipher the physics and chemistry governing the behavior of engineering materials. Specific research interests include:

  • Machine learning and materials informatics,
  • Multiscale modeling of materials,
  • Mechanical properties of glass,
  • Carbon immobilization by mineralization,
  • Aging and relaxation of disordered materials,
  • Mitigation of the carbon footprint of cementitious materials,
  • Irradiation-induced damage in materials,
  • Durability of wasteforms for nuclear waste immobilization.
