Hang Yu

Hang Yu's research group at Virginia Tech explores the fundamental manufacturing science underlying solid-state additive manufacturing. The current focus is on additive friction stir deposition of metals and metal matrix composites. Research interests include the integration of data-driven and physically-based approaches for process control (temperature, material flow, distortion), dynamic microstructure evolution, synthesis of new hybrid materials and composites, and application of the technology to large-scale repair, cladding, and materials recycling and rejuvenation.
