Aleksandra Benko

AGH University of Science and Technology

Aleksandra Benko is a Research Assistant Professor at the AGH, University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, Department of Biomaterials and Composites in Krakow Poland. She earned her B. Eng. and Msc. Eng. in the Biomedical Engineering from the Interdisciplinary School of Biomedical Engineering, AGH, while her PhD (2017) – in the Materials Engineering from the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, AGH.

Her research interest is focused on biomedical applications of carbon nanomaterials, with special emphasis on carbon nanotubes. The main goal of the studies is to identify the physicochemical and electrochemical determinants of specific cellular reactions, which would allow for aware planning, designing and fabricating new types of biomedical devices, including scaffolds, drug carriers and biosensors.

Principal investigator of 3 scientific grants:

  • from 2014 to 2016: Analyzing influence of various parameters of the EPD process on the characteristics of obtained composite materials,
  • · from 2017 to 2021: Influence of the physicochemical and electrical properties of the carbon nanofibrous scaffolds on their biological behaviour in vitro
  • from 2021 to 2024: Biofunctional scaffolds aided with electrical stimulation for differentiation of stem cells into cardiomyocytes”

She also took part in other projects, all revolving around novel biomaterials.
