Los Alamos National Laboratory

Dr. Han Htoon received Ph.D in Physics from University of Texas at Austin in 2001. He joined Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Director Postdoctoral Fellow. After winning Postdoctoral Distinguished Performance Award in 2004, he became a staff scientist at Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies, Los Alamos National Laboratory. His research team is known for development of novel single nanostructure optical spectroscopy methods and discovery of fundamental as well as quantum optical properties of nanocrystal quantum dots, carbon nanotubes, nanowires and 2D materials. Some of his recent noteworthy accomplishments project includes: demonstration of quantum light emission at telecommunication wavelengths from spin defects of 2D materials and covalent defects states of carbon nanotubes at room temperature; unravelling electronic structure and chemical nature of the covalent defects resulted from oxygen and aryl functionalization; understanding the mechanisms responsible for photoluminescence blinking and bleaching in colloidal nanocrystal quantum dots. He have authored of more than 150 peer reviewed publications that are cited more than 9000 times. He was recently awarded Los Alamos National Laboratory Fellow research prize (2019) and selected as the fellow of American Physical Society (2017).
