Francesco obtained his PhD in developmental biology from King's College London where he studied cell adhesion and wound healing. He did his postdoctoral work at the Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, where he worked on cell fusion and skeletal muscle development. He then joined University College London, and worked on genome editing for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and on neuromuscular development. He joined Nature Communications in 2016, and became manager of the Translational & Clinical Research Team in 2020, where he oversees the handling and publication papers in the fields such as of gene therapy, neuromuscular and bone biology, metabolism, ageing, cardiovascular biology and therapeutic and clinical studies.
