Future miniature robots are envisaged to have a range of very useful functionalities. Powering miniature mobile robots requires the integration of actuators, sensing, wiring, an energy source, power converters, and computing, for which materials issues are critical. New materials, fabrication, and bioinspired designs are enabling advancements in insect-scale untethered and autonomous robots. The articles in the February 2024 issue of MRS Bulletin overview the state of the art, opportunities, and materials challenges in achieving high power efficiency fast actuation and heterogeneous integration for miniature robots.

This webinar complements the February 2024 theme issue of MRS Bulletin on this topic and presents talks by select authors in the issue.
