Caloric Effects in Ferroic Materials

Date: April 18, 2018

Time: 12:00PM - 01:30PM

You must be registered to participate!

The April, 2018 issue of MRS Bulletin on “Caloric effects in ferroic materials” introduced the reader to the state-of-the-art and ongoing developments in ferroic-caloric materials and their implementations into cooling devices. Ferroic cooling cycles were explained, along with the similarities and differences among magnetocaloric, electrocaloric, and elastocaloric cooling. The development of these materials for cooling has enabled new functionalities beyond refrigeration, including the use of magnetocaloric materials for hyperthermia therapy for cancer treatment.

The talks in this webinar expanded upon the MRS Bulletin issue, and attendees were able to interact—in real time—with the webinar presenters.

Talk Presentations:

  • Magnetocaloric Materials for Refrigeration Near Room Temperature
    Tino Gottschall, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf
    Talk begins at 10:58

  • Magnetocaloric Cooling Devices
Christian Bahl, Technical University of Denmark
    Talk begins at 35:51

  • Elastocaloric Cooling – From Basic Concepts Towards First Applications
    Stefan Seelecke, Saarland University
    Talk begins at 1:03:18

Hosts:
  • Anja Waske, Group Leader, Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW)
